Hugh MacKEY
« on: Monday 23 July 12 02:50 BST (UK) »
Hi There,

I am trying to find out how Hugh MacKEY and his sister Sarah came out to NZ via Australia.
http://genforum.genealogy.com/australia/messages/12415.html
http://genforum.genealogy.com/mackey/messages/1411.html

I understand they arrived in NZ in 1841 on a ship name “Shamrock”
Hugh was born about 1819 in Corker, Killaghtee, County Donegal, Ireland
Sarah was born about 1822 same area.

Sarah married Richard Newdick in 1843 and I have info on this family

Hugh Married a Sarah HANCOCK in 1849 NZ and had the following children
James 1849
Thomas 1852
Hannah 1854
Elizabeth Jane 1856
John 1858 died 1858
Catherine 1860
Edward Hugh 1862
Sarah died 1864 and I think she is buried at St Marks in Remuera, Auckland.
Hugh next married  Ellen SMITH in 1865
They had 3 children that I found
Ellen Sarah 1866
George Herbert 1867 - 1953
Arthur 1870  died 1892

Hugh died 1898 and  is buried at Purewa Cemetery Block A Row 4 Plot 92
Ellen died 1903 is in Plot 91 same block and row
Arthur is buried with Ellen
George Herbert died 1953  is also buried with Ellen
Can anyone help to find further info on this family please?
I do not have any info as to who Hugh and Sarah’s parents were

Regards
newbe

Hi Newbe,

I see on A$ty that there is a tree for Hugh MacKey born 1819 in Halifax, York, England, married to Sarah Hancock on 15 Jan 1849 at St Pauls, Auckland, the children for this marriage match what you have, and there are some death dates.

James 1949 - think you mean 1849 ;D

Cheers

Thanks KHP, Will go change it.

I have found no parish record when searching A$ for Hugh MacKEY
I am not able to view all the tree but there seems to be no source for their info.

They have Sarah's death as 3 Sep 1864 burial, St Marks, Remuera.

Your library should have A$y and you will be able to view the tree.  You need to verify which is the correct birth location though.

Looks like it is the right couple, the father matches what is on tree.

Newbe, sit back and wait, need another pair of eyes to help with this.

Newbe,

Found this tree, not sure if it is the same owner, or a completely different researcher, looks like you can find a bit more info on children.
