Alexander Munro born 14th May 1763 in Urquhart and Logie Wester
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 19:49 BST (UK) »
I know it is kind of a long shot but does anyone know what became of Alexander Munro born 14th May 1763 in the parish of Urquhart and Logie Wester ? (son of James Munro and Margaret Fraser).

I believe he could be my ancestor Alexander Munro who I have a record for as having left the county of Ross in 1784, and who settled in the county of Sutherland. And whose eldest son was named James Munro.

I cannot find an Alexander Munro on the 1841 census in Ross-shire who matches by age which suggests that the one born in 1763 was no longer living there. Of course he could have died by then anyway.

Interestingly the Alexander Munro born in 1763 had a twin sister called Mary who I believe coincidentally also married another Alexander Munro who was also born in the parish of Urquhart and Logie Wester but in 1769. Just by matching up the names of farms/settlements mentioned on the parish registers.

Hi, do you have any sources for the info you already have on Alexander Munro and his parents? I am just researching this line and not sure which Alexander is mine. THanks. Any further info I find, I will pass onto you. Small part of my  tree is at ancestry.co.uk., http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/46452631/family. I am trying to get source info on following discussion forum, but slow-going. http://genforum.genealogy.com/munro/messages/1220.html

For the Alexander Munro I am referring to there is a parish birth record from 1763 which says that his father was James Munro. The birth record also states that Alexander had a twin sister named Mary. I do not think this is the same Alexander Munro that is in your line.

And I think the lineage you have linked in at genealogy.com is a bit dubious. I should tell you that DNA testing has shown than less than 10% of Munros are actually connected to the Munros of Foulis (Baronets and chiefs of Clan Munro).

Also the Alexander Munro born in 1763; his parents married, James Munro and Margaret Fraser - there is a marriage record for them in 1749 in the same parish of Urquhart and Logie Wester. However it says that James Munro was from the parish of Contin.

hi there

now I'm not saying my munro's are the same line as I am still trying to work out who, where ,what.
I notice I posted before with regards to Dundee that was because my line eventually ended up there.
if this matches then pm me .

Donald Munro 1796 Urguhart married Catherine North

not sure when they moved however their daughter Jessie munro or Janet b1822 married in Sutherland husband born in Rogart and family living in Shiness.

I have it written down that Alexander Munro is Jessie's (janet) grand father however not necessarily your Alexander.

I wasn't really searching the Munro side until now as i was following the husband of Jessie from cromarty/ross to sutherland  and surrounding areas back to Burnside parish of dingwall and so on until this line ended in Dundee.

Hi there,

Do you mean that your Donald Munro was born in 1796 or that he married Catherine North in 1796 ?

There was a Donald Munro, born in 1796 in the parish of Urquhart and Logie Wester, Ross, son of Kenneth Munro and Kathrine Mc Kenzie.

There was another Donald Munro born in 1797 in the parish of Urquhart and Logie Wester, Ross, son of William Munro and Margaret Mac Ferquhar.

However, there are quite a few settlements and parishes in Scotland that are named Urquhart. Are you sure that it is Urquhart and Logie Wester in the county of Ross ?

I can't find any marriage record for Donald Munro and Catherine North.
