The Whale family of Tipton/Dudley (early 1800s)
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 13:22 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm trying to trace the Whale family who may have harked from Tipton but appear to have links to Dudley, particularly St. Thomas' ('top') church.  The specific chap I'm looking for is Henry Whale (various spellings over the years including Wheale and possibly Weales) born circa 1825, who in 1841 was living with Rosanna Whale (c.1771), possibly an older mum or his grandmother, at Crop Street in Tipton.  He later married Sarah Smith, worked as a boatman and lived in Toll End.

Does anyone have links to the Whales during that period (1750-1850) and could possibly identify Henry's parents or confirm Rosanna's link to him?  Sadly nothing on Family Search and nothing as yet on FreeReg, although I'm still looking at alternative spellings.  I did have a look at the St. Thomas' records in the archives yesterday, but nothing there either, although a few Whales around at the time - Tipton records are held elsewhere, so perhaps need to check these too, although Henry is noted in 1841 as coming from outside the Tipton area, and later cites both Dudley and Tipton as his place of birth.

Any and all info much appreciated as always...Helen :)

There's a death for Rossanna Whale June 1851 Dudley 18 294.It might tell you who she was a widow of.
There are also alot of non-conformist churches in the Tipton,Dudley Port and Burntwood Islane where they lived. It's a bit earley but they like ,Tipton's parish records are at Smethwick Library on the High St.
Can I ask is your Henry a relation to the directer James whale who also came from Tipton?
