GGGGrandmother Date/Restore please! :)
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 13:01 BST (UK) »
I have this picture of Hannah Wells who I believe to be my 4x Great Grandmother. I was just wondering if you could put an age on the lady and whether I am correct in who I believe the person to be sorry it's not the best picture as it is a scan of a non original picture.  :(

I'm not sure on the fashion for the era this was taken but the lady looks fairly old in it. Wondered what time period you would say this was taken in?

Many Thanks in advance. Would appreciate any help on this. :)

Thank you Irene, that looks really nice and a great improvement!  ;D

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on what year timeframe this might have been the lady looks rather old and I have a suspicion of who it is, but wondered whether you could tell by the bonnet and dress she is wearing?

Kind Regards

James

I'll take a stab at the photo being from around the 1890s, but older ladies are very hard to date without context, as they tended to keep wearing clothes long after they became unfashionable (and still do!)

If you have any more of the photograph - the card it's on, and the back - could you show those too, as they could clinch the date.

Unfortunately I don't have the original card photo that is was taken on which is a real shame.  :( Thanks for taking a guess at the date for me. I believe it to be someone who born in the early 1820's (4x Gt Grandmother), which could possibly put the lady in her mid to late 70's.

Kind Regards
James

I was wondering do you think that the lady standing up in this photo is the same person as the old lady I originally posted. I think it is, but can't be too sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

I don't think they are the same person, although there are some similarities in the jawline - and both photos were probably taken around the same time (1890s) so there's a difference in ages to be considered too :)

Very interesting indeed.  :D

Thanks for shedding light on that for me. I presumed they were the same person just that one was when she was older.

I believe the first person to be Hannah Wells born 1823 - died 1906

And wonder if she is related to the lady in the second picture, but apparently the old lady I originally posted is related to the man in the second picture if that is correct. Confusing trying to figure out what side of the family they are.  :-\

The other person in the picture it could be is her husband John Wells born 1821 died 1897, so maybe she aged quite a lot after he died. Is it possible that the original picture I posted may have been around 1905/6 ish just before she died?
