Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham Archives look up if possible
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 12:44 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Just wondered if anyone was planning a visit to the CAB archive this week and if so could have a quick look for a possible christening record for me please?

I'm looking for William Harold Woolridge, born in Wolverhampton in the December quarter of 1889.  I'm not 100% he was Catholic as a child, but later married in St. Patricks in Wolverhampton (it's possible this was his wife's church and also that he converted).  According to the CAB indexes, the details of the likely volume are:

Reference No. P319/1/3 - Register of Baptisms 1888-1925

I believe from an earlier marriage record (his first wife died young and there was no father listed on the later marriage) that his father was also 'William' but the census records 1891-1911 aren't turning up the family in Wolverhampton and there are a few 'William-William' combinations outside the area, so ideally I need his mother's name to confirm, but any and all information would be much appreciated.

Many thanks...Helen :)

Just to note also, that I've posted something similar in the Staffordshire forum, in case anyone is off to the Wolverhampton archives as he may have been CofE (later family members are) and so may be listed there.

Hi

It's very likely he was illegitimate.  A copy of his birth cert would be your best option as it will show his parent(s) names

Freebmd has 2 female Woolridge marriages in the Wolverhampton RD - both in 1890 so if one is his mother - he may be shown under her married name in 1891

Please reply there if you can help further.

They do cause confusion so are best avoided if at all possible.
