Sheffield Census 1831/Jones business
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 12:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Is there a Sheffield Census 1831 available to view online??

Can't think of any other way to find John JONES marrying Elizabeth BUTCHER 24/8/1789
and tracking back into the previous generation. Probably looking at 1760/70.

Anyone, any ideas???

There are these possibilities of John Jones births in Sheffield from the LDS Familysearch site.....

18 Aug 1769 father William Jones
09 May 1756 father Charles Jones
25 Jul 1764 father Benjamin Jones
22 Apr 1761 father Edward Jones

There is an Elizabeth Butcher baptised 5th December 1762 at Eccleshall, Sheffield, father John Butcher

Some possibilities for you there to cross reference?

The 1831 census was little more than a population count.  1841 was the first census to include names and households.

Yes, I suspected that might be the case.  I was clutching at straws as I wasn't too sure about how to proceed.
