Martha Jane Groom or Harbour
« on: Friday 20 July 12 18:14 BST (UK) »
An ancester of mine - Hannah Hodson married Isaac Groom in 1841 - together they have at least four children in various places in England between then and his death in 1863.  After his death Hannah lives with and possibly married a William Rush.  The children appear to use both Groom and Rush surnames.
However, when daughter Martha Jane (bn 1857) married John Hoare in 1882 (Northampton) the registered surname is Harbour.
Familysearch has a Martha Jane Harbour baptised in Northampton, daughter of Christopher and Hannah Harbour in the 1880's (could be an adult one) and a Christopher and Hannah Harbour die in Northampton in 1887 and 1881.
Census have two Groom/Rush sons lodging with their sister, Martha Hoare so I think it is all one family but why the Harbour name.
Could someone please look up the 1882 marriage and see if any witnesses are mentioned?
Many thanks
Amanda

Thank you very much for all that information.  Gives me a bit more to go on.  Sadly Christopher Harbour only seems to appear at his baptism and his death and on no census in between!!
