Trade directories-1850s+

Hi does anyone know if you can get access to trade directories for Staffordshire after 1850 without continually paying for it??My great great grandfather was James Welch and he was a confectioner and baker on 32 High Street,Newcastle under Lyme from 1850s to 1860s and there are supposedly adverts for him in trade directories.He later moved to Duddleston Mill Road,Birmingham and again there are references to him as a baker until 1873.Can anyone help.I have all his censuses but I would love to know if there is any access to these directories without  it costing all the time??Thank you!

Ancestry have just put a load on entries found specifically on the addresses given

james welch  1860 post office directory of staffordshire  lists him as a confectioner

james welch 1872  kelly's directory of birmingham lists him as a baker and shop keeper at 115 duddeston road
page number 348

james welch 1873 baker and flour dlr (presumably a dealer) again in duddeston mill road and that is in white's directory birmingham
westwood ,dace,petcher,tams

Depending on where you live local records offices usually have copies of the trade directories.
I have an 189? (part of flap missing) directory but only for Staffordshire. Birmingham isn't in it.

You could try the William Salt Library in Stafford. They hold a wide range of books and documents relating to Staffordshire.

All the Staffs Trade Directories are available in Stafford Library, in the Reference Section, I often go in and look at them.
