thanks Kris

funilly enough i was just emailing Jacks to find out if she had found out any more!

thanks for the information - i certainly hadn't got it and i don't know whether Jacks had, but that is wonderful.

Next thing is the 1841 census i guess and that will be as far as we can go at the moment, unless one of you wonderful rootchatters has any bright ideas?

thanks again

...which i have replied to sue!! ;D

And I would agree with what you have posted!!

Although if anyone can find any other Edwin Meatyards in the 1871  Henstridge census as i have a problem ( or rather 'we' have one)!  ;D

I have found an Edwin, right age, right name of daughter and daughters age (Mary E, 9 mths) Just one stumbling point, wrong name for the wife, wrong birthplace! It should be Elizabeth (nee Wareham) born Shaftesbury married 1869. However it says Jane from Henstridge!

Any suggestions????

Unfortunately 1841 census for Somerset is not readilly available as yet. Do get anywhere beyond that point you will need to start examining the parish records.

I have had a look at the 71 entry you mention Jacks...will post incase Sue has not seen it. I cannot see another Edwin. Henstringe has been ditto down the page from the name above Edwin so I wouldnt put too much faith in it. (Perhaps the enumerator wasn't really listening. Jane may be a middle name. You obviously have a marriage cert and with Elizabeth being there in 1881 Elizabeth hasn't died and a quick remarriage to Jane.  Out of curiousity I looked at 81 and yes Elizabeth Dorset  :-\

1871 census

RG10/2424 Folio 61 Page 29

MEATYARD Edwin Head 24 b Henstridge Ag Labourer
MEATYARD Jane 23 b Henstridge
MEATYARD Mary E Dau 9 months b Henstridge

thanks Kris - i was wondering about a middle name as well, although the ages aren't perfect.

guess one way to check it would be to order Mary E's birth certificate and see who was listed as the mother.

Do you know if the BVRI covers up to 1869?

thanks for your help

Unfortunately  it is order in the parish records for you.  ::) It seems Jacks has the marriage and if he married Elizabeth in 1869 and is with her from then on there cannot be another wife. I checked 81, 91 and 1901 and all say Elizabeth Shaftesbury. The best I can come up with is perhaps her name is Elizabeth Jane. I can try 1861 out of curiousity since Jacks has given her name but can't go beyond that for Dorset I'm afraid....Kris  :D

MMM Failed there also without further info. The only Elizabeth Wareham born Shaftsbury I can find in 1861 was only born in 1855! There is a Jane Ann b 1849 Perhaps with a fathers name I can try again....Kris  :D

Well on this one I can hopefully add a little light,  I have Elizabeth Wareham b 1849 approx daughter of William Wareham and Elizabeth (Davies i think) I found them on the 1861 census on the Shaftesbury St James

RG9/1325 Folio 62 Page 9
St.James Street
Shaftesbury St James

William Wareham Head Married 40 Sawyer Child Okeford Dorset
Elizabeth Wareham Wife Married 35 Motcombe Dorset
Elizabeth Wareham Daughter 11 Scholar Shaftesbury Dorset
Albert Wareham Son 4 Scholar Shaftesbury Dorset
Martha  Case; Lodger 83 Pauper Shaftesbury Dorset

and i found this

24-Dec 1848 Wareham  William widower Sawyer Father Thomas  = Davis  Elizabeth Father Thomas

If this is the correct marriage then this gives both of their fathers names.

Hope this is some help!! I'm supposed to be getting ready for work!! ;D

Hi all,
I saw your postings tonight with regard to the Meatyard/Meteyard family from Henstridge. I know they were posted some time ago but I am interested in Amelia Meatyard born 1838, Edwin's sister. I am stuck on her husband(?) James Parsons. I cannot find him with her on any census or their marriage. As you have all been researching for a while do any of you know about him?
Many Thanks
Regards
