Ive done all the sreaching in the usual places and I'm starting to think only a trip to the record office is going to tell me!

Hello Jacks,

There are a few Meatyards around in the 1851 census of Henstridge but not one named Edwin.
However, there are a family called Meachard and the inhabitants of the household are as follows.

Charles Meachard, 37 Labourer, Henstridge.
Mary, 44, Stourton Caundle.
Alfred, 14, Labourer, Henstridge.
Amelia, 12, scholar, Henstridge.
Francis, 10 scholar, Henstridge.
Albert, 8, scholar, Henstridge.
Edwin, 5, scholar, Henstridge.
John, 6months, Henstridge.

Often people could not write and errors crept into censuses.
The Edwin (not a very common name in those days) above would be about the right age.
I should also try the name Meachyard.
Hope this helps some!

Ooooohh! I have been madly doing searches in the Familysearch.org site since i read this......and i cant find any Meachards for the correct dates but i can find an Albert Meatyard, possibly a John Meatyard and even a Charles Meatyard! So I think that your right and this was a phonetic spelling of Meatyard!!

So thank you for that because it seems likely that is the 'Edwin' Ive been looking for!! ;D

Now to find out who is Charles Meatyards father!! ;D

I notice this thread went no further once the two of you made the connection. I thought it best to merge the two threads.

Are you still after the census information Sue?

Cheers Kris  :D
