There's more on the Leicestershire Yeomanry site, including a couple of photos of him if you scroll down the page some way.

More on Frezenburg where he was killed...

Maybe they would appreciate a photo of the chest since they seem interested in all items?

Hello chrissie,

I've just been reading your post with great interest because my Gt Uncle served with the 19th Hussars from 1889 until his retirement  after 22 years service in 1911.

For the last few years I've been trying to find out if there is anyone out there who may have photos of the Regiment and the men in it during the time span I've mentioned and  wondered if you had found any such photos or information in the chest that you found in your attic or was it completely empty?

I'd be interested in any information you may have, I have little to none on my Gt Uncle.

Thanks

Barbara.

Added: my Gt Uncle was the RSM of the 19th Hussars when he completed his service in 1911 so he very likely knew your chap..

Hi gortonboy,

Yes, I managed to get copies so that I do have the basic details of his Army Service.

I would just love to have had a photo/photos of the Regiment during that time, he may have featured on some of them.

I know from his record that he was involved in the Relief of Ladysmith and that he was mentioned in Lord Kitcheners Final Despatch.

Cheers

Barbara.

Hi gortonboy, thanks for that.

It's  really interesting to read, I wish there was something similar for the 19th Hussars, especially the photo.

I'm going to keep trying in my hunt for photos -  there must be some out there that have been left with  relatives etc, who may consider sharing them with me.

I have one photo of my Gt Uncle, taken during WW1 and showing him holding the rank of Captain, so I have to assume that he went back in the Army during WW1 but as he would have been 47 in 1914, he must have gone back in some sort of Admin position and been commissioned into the rank of Captain. Well, that's what I'm guessing.

Would there be an Officer's Record of Service for him, if that was the case, and how would I find it?    I find it all a bit puzzling. ???

Cheers.

Barbara.
