help to find marriage please
« on: Wednesday 18 July 12 00:26 BST (UK) »
Trying to find a marriage for William Wilson and Rebecca ????????

William Wilson b.1869 Lisburn
Rebecca ??????? b.1868 Donegal or County Londonderry (depends which census you read)

1901 census Russel Street, Windsor Ward, Belfast
1911 census Erin Street, Windsor Ward, Belfast

Would be grateful for any help in finding a marriage so that I can get back another generation.  The poor woman I am doing this for paid some charlatan £100 to start her family tree and they said they could find no info, but after two days I'm making steady progress.  I am doing this FOC of course.

Taking child Henrietta (not so common a forename), there is a record for a Henrietta Wilson born in 1899 to William Wilson and Rebecca Kerr in Belfast, critically, William is is described as a butcher, which ties in with the 1901 census.

Moving back, there is a marriage for William Wilson to Rebecca Jane Kerr on 12 July 1888 in Crescent Presbyterian Church Belfast, he is listed as a flesher's assistant, again tying in with the other records.  I know this marriage date doesn't gel with the stated no. of years in the 1911 census, but since son Thomas (born 1890'ish according to the census records) seems to be nearly, if not the oldest child, I'm assuming the 28 years married which is stated in the 1911 census is wrong.

BTW, the marriage record shows that William Wilson's father was Thomas Wilson, a cattle dealer, Rebecca Jane Kerr's father was George Kerr, a labourer.

Thanks Gaffy, that's extremely helpful.  Can I ask where you got the info from?  I checked emerald ancestors and couldn't find anything.

Hi Speedwobble, the marriage is on Emerald alright but I used AncestryIreland to get the critical detail of the birth and marriage to tie (father's occupation).
