Sorry I don't, I do have a contact who has quite alot of Coveney research from Faversham, Kent, if you would like me to put you in contact with her, send me your e-mail address through private message & I will send it on for her for her to contact you.

Hello Alice,

I am unable to find any Agnes Coveney on the 1851 Faversham census.

I do, however, have a christening of an Agnes Coveney at Ospringe  28 Dec 1832 the base born daughter of Frances Coveney (sources:  PR and BT).  Could this be your lady?

It appears that, in 1851, Frances Coveney was an unmarried woman working as a servant for William Moore and family.  Frances Coveney was listed as being 43 years of age and born at Wye, Kent.  This would certainly explain why Agnes, if indeed she was the daughter of Frances, is not to be found at Faversham as she was probably with a relative at Wye.  The full entry can be found in District 3, on page 13.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Susan

Hi Alice,
Re your previous post when I found Alice on the 1841 census:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,57980.0.html/
I've also checked the 1851 census for Eastling, where her step siblings were born, Throwley, where her mother was, and Ospringe, where her mother was born. No trace in these, I'm afraid. She was probably working in service somewhere.
This post may relate to her in later life, giving details of her marriage:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,18595.0.html
If this is her, then she could also have been in Sittingbourne, where she lived from 1881 onwards, or Canterbury district where she married. I also wonder if she took the name of Rook, rather than Coveney, as this was a fairly common thing to do. I'm sorry I can't help further with this, but will keep an eye out for Alice in the future. Maybe someone can find her for you in the 1861 and 1871 census, then we can work backwards.
xx Carol.

Hello Alice,

I have another piece of the COVENEY puzzle for you that might help to tie together the ROOK and COVENEY issues.

In addition to the Frances COVENEY that appeared in the 1851 Faversham census, there is a second Frances COVENEY who married William ROOK.  The marriage details are as follows:

William ROOK of full age, labourer, residence at Kingsdown, father Richard ROOK, also a labourer married at Faversham on 6 September 1840 Frances COVENEY of full age, no occupation, residence at time of marriage in Faversham, father Richard COVENEY, also a labourer.  Witnesses were Joseph Fever and Maria COVENEY.

So it would seem that this is a nice fit for the ROOK information you earlier received - complete with an explanation for Agnes COVENEY living in the household and subsequently, Maria COVENEY living in the household.

This Frances COVENEY was christened at Ospringe on 5 June 1808 to parents Richard and Sarah COVENEY.  Richard and Sarah COVENEY also had Thomas 1815, Caroline 1812, Richard 1810, George 1805, Sarah 1803, Marianne 1799, William 1797, Maria 1795.

Interesting that the unmarried Frances COVENEY who appears in the 1851 Faversham census provides an age
that correlates so closely to the above Frances.

Susan

Hi Alice

An Agnes ROOK bc1837 Ospringe is working as a servant in Tonbridge 1861 and an Agnes ROOK bc1837 Ospringe is working as a servant in St Helen Stonegate, York, Yorkshire in 1871 so if this is your Agnes COVENEY/ROOK it is quite possible that she is in service somewhere in 1851 and it's a bit difficult to determine just where she will be.

Best wishes

Hi Alice,

I have an Agnes Frances Coveney in my tree.  I have her listed as being born around 1833 in Ospringe.  She married in 1878 to William ATTWATER.

I have her listed in the 1881, 1891 & 1901 census.  I have not been able to find anything prior to that.

If you think this is your Agnes, I would love to hear from you.
