Tips wanted on how to organise photographs
« on: Sunday 15 July 12 23:43 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone

Can anyone please give me some ideas on how to organise family photographs? I have the albums and I certainly have the photographs, but I am driving myself crazy as to how to organise them.  :-\
I intend to leave the ones I have acquired in the albums they arrived in.

All ideas gratefully received.

A very confused

Thanks Xinia

I'm glad I am not the only one, do you put family groups together, if so how as they sort of drift from one generation to the other.
Maybe  chronologically ....that is if you know the date.

I remain very much confused

Yes, I put them into Surname groups, then when the main line marries I seperate her into her married folder.  If you can understand me....

So for example   I have my nan as a child in the Haywood folder, then when she marries everything after that moved into the Green folder leaving a note to explain that... there must be an easier way.....
 ;) :D

Why not do copies & put one in each folder ie. nanny Green nee Haywood in the Green folder.

I am ashamed to say mine are all in a suitcase under the bed.   I did make a start on getting them in some sort of order after my husband bought me a really posh album for christmas.   I started to get frustrated as who should go where and gave up.  I really must make an effort.

I undertook the long task of scanning them all into my computer. It took me ages, but little and often did it.

Then I was able to Photoshop them, and saw some amazing improvements.

They are now stored on the computer and backed up in two places...

The theory was that I could then throw away the originals, and save storage space. Not got around to that, just yet.  ::) ;D

But I can organise the pictures any way I please.

My favourite photo album was given to me by an aunt. Lovely black and white photos each one labelled with the date and details. I have scanned them into the computer into one folder. I am so grateful to her for noting all those details. I have kept all the originals as digital copies are unreliable and are subject to becoming corrupted and therefore lost. The originals will be passed on to family.
So my advice is do what she did and label all the photos. Your family will thank you in years to come.
