I have looked for more records in relation to Henry and Rachel Gatehouse but to be frank I have found none!  ???

However, I have put together some records relation to Gatehouse with Henry generally as the principal.  Sadly they raise more questions than supplying any solid answers.  ???

They are in chronological order.

The Parish of Walmer.

7 Jan 1816 Henry s/o Henry and Judith GATEHOUSE Labourer.  Baptism
28 Jan 1816 Henry GATEHOUSE 5 weeks.  Burial
5 Feb 1816 Henry GATEHOUSE (Ba) to Judith GRANT (Sp) both otp.  Marriage
Witnesses Jane Smeed and John Norris
3 Nov 1816 Henry s/o Henry and Ann GAITHOUSE Labourer.  Baptism bn Oct?
This one seems to fit with the family, as found by Betty, in Walmer Poor Law.

The Parish of Charlton

7 Jan 1827 Richard s/o Henry & Judith GADHOUSE Labourer.  Baptism

The following Burials
27 Apr 1833 Henry GATEHOUSE age 47
29 Oct 1840 Judith Ann GATEHOUSE age 41 from Buckland.

One marriage of note
22 May 1854
Henry RATCLIFF (19 Ba) Brickmaker – Father John, Brickmaker
Rachel GATEHOUSE (18 Sp) of Buckland – Father Henry, Labourer

Whilst looking through Walmer I noted two baptisms for children of William and Ann GAITHOUSE.

Whilst looking through Charlton I noted baptisms for children of Charles GATEHOUSE.  One has to assume another family.  Oh no.  ::)

Lastly I have added in two baptisms from St Mary, Dover.  I am not sure if and where they fit into the overall scheme of things!

1819 Jun 2 Catherine D of Henry & Judith GATEHOUSE Hougham Kent; Labourer
1836 Jul 13 Rachael Ann D of William & Judith GATEHOUSE otp (Labourer)

To be honest there seem to be some obvious errors in the recording of names that it is going to be difficult to reach any conclusion with 100% confidence.  ::) ::)

Sorry I cannot be more helpful.  : :(

Best of luck,
Tony

Thanks you so much Tony - all the info is greatly appreciated even if it does raise more questions than it answers!!

I have found a family with mother and father Henry and Rachel Gatehouse in the 1841 Census but they were in Shaftsbury with no mention of "my" Charles (but then he would be old enough not to be living with them) - but if this is them, why was Charles baptised in Deal?

They are still in Shaftsbury in 1851 - Rachel born in Wiltshire, with Henry and son James born Shaftsbury.  Henry is a Cordwainer, so nothing that would take them to Deal.  So probably not the right family - although it might be interesting to see if I can find a marriage for them outside Kent.

Kind regards,

Sally
