I am researching the Rintel line of my family tree. Rabbi Myer Rintel was a Talmudic scholar and Hebrew author who was linked
to the Graet Synagogue of London in Duke St. Sometime in 1817 he left London and went to Edinburgh Scotland where his son
Moses was born in 1823. I have seen Myers name variously spelt as Myer, Meir or Mier. He would have been 38 at the time and is thought to have been born in Hanover Germany with links to the Dutch Rintels. A
news paper report places Myer and Moses
in Newcastle England in 1829. The next reference is from Brighton England on 14/3/1843 on an inquest into the death of a
servant in the Rintel home. Moses was the reader at the Brighton Synagougue and was with his mother , but there is no
mention of his father. In 1844 Moses emigrated to Australia where he became the senior Rabbi in what became the city
of Melbourne in Victoria, dying there in 1880. I have found a report in the Argus in Melbourne of the 8/7/1869 that Sara(h)
Rintel , the mother of Rabbi Moses Rintel had died in 4/5/4869 in Rogasen Prussia Germany at the age of 85. Ragosen is
now Rogozno in Poland and was part of Polalnd in 1784. But on a family tree here in Australia her name is given as Davies.
Given her historical backround , i would presume her family name was anglicized at some time. Any help in filling in the gaps
or pointers as where to look would be much appreciated.
