Peter McKinnon information
« on: Wednesday 11 July 12 21:32 BST (UK) »
I have traced one branch of my family tree back to Peter McKinnon. He was married to Annie Vassie. Their daughter Isabella was born in 1860. I'd like to get a marriage record for them if possible. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Hi Paul

Is this the family you are looking at?

Peter Mckenny 34, coal miner b. Camphill, Stirlingshire
Annie Mckenny 28 b. Kirkintillnock, Dumbarton
Isabella Mckenny 10
Margaret Mckenny 6
Cecelia Mckenny 3
James Mckenny 1
Alexander Mckenny 15

Address: No 73 x, Whitburn West Lothian

Can't easily see the marriage  :-\ On this entry above, Annie's relationship to Peter shows as "housekeeper".

Lots of different spellings on McKinnon showing on some of the children's birth regs, such as:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQ7D-TZY
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQP1-K8W
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQ5M-Z85
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQGQ-943

Any of these birth entries should show date and place of parents' marriage...if parents were married.

Isabella's birth entry https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY5R-KR6 is under mother's maiden name of Vassie.

To confirm Peter and Ann's lines, would be good to double check their death certs:

From online trees, Peter's death is showing as on 25 May 1907 in Airdrie or New Monkland, Lanarkshire. His parents James and Elizabeth (Mckendries). Possible entry (from transcription) for 1841:

James Mckinnie 45, coal miner
James Mckinnie 16
John Mckinnie 14
Jane Mckinnie 12
Isabella Mckinnie 8
Peter Mckinnie 5

Address: Greenhead, Campsie Stirlingshire

Ann Vassie's death down as on 21 Aug 1906 in Airdrie or New Monkland, Lanarkshire. Parents John Vassie and Cecilia Morrison.

Entry for Ann for 1841 given as:

John Vassey 25, Cotton H L W
Cecilia Vassey 20 b. Scotland
James Vassey 4
Ann Vassey 1
Margaret Wood 70 b. Scotland

Address: High St, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire

Interesting.... That might explain some of the dead ends I've been hitting. Is there a marriage record for Isabella McKinnon (or Vassie) to a William Tannahill?

I think their marriage shows in 1881 in Glasgow.

If you want to view the certificate online, the place to do so is the official pay to view site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (costs are very reasonable).

Yes, this is the group. Cecilia is my grandmother. She married James Paterson in Canada. I'll check the Scotlands People site. Thanks
