India Bengal - person disappeared?
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 18:23 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,
I'm very new to researching India ancestors, so any help appreciated.  Have found via familysearch.org details of Edwin Ernest Guest (b1872) marrying Louisa Josephine Scaife (b1882) 23 April 1902 in Ghaziabad, Bengal. After I cannot find a death worldwide for Edwin or a remarriage for Louisa.  Their daughter Coral Margurette b 5 Jul 1904 states a Frederick George Michael as father on  her marriage details and her name is then Guest-Michael.
Am I looking in the wrong places for the solution? Nothing on FIBIS Find mypast or Ancestry. All are born in India.
With grateful thanks for any help and points in the right direction !
Best wishes
Lucy

Do you know what happened to Coral's brother, Edwin John Eubank Guest (Actually might this be his marriage under Michael?): https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGJD-7KH ) and possible sister Ruby Florence Olga Guest b. 1906?

There appears also to be a younger sibling, Shiela Olive Michael (birth registered as Shiela Olvie Michael) in 1909, which at least gives you a limited range of years. It may be that it wasn't possible for Louisa and Frederick to legally marry - for example if Edwin was still alive. He obviously wasn't in the picture given that the children seem to have thought of Frederick George as their father and used the Michael name.

It is quite likely that the answers you're looking for won't be online. If it is possible for you to get there, there might be some useful documents held by the British Library.

For example, depending on when the parents of Edwin, Louisa, and Frederick passed away, their wills (how children are named, whether or not Edwin got anything) might help.

Knowing Edwin's occupation might help as well. Have you checked deaths at sea for him?

Hello,
Thank you very much for those ideas.  Nothing came up on  a deaths at sea using search all records but I will make an extra focused search now. I had Shiela but not Florence so thats an interesting extra thankyou !
Just my luck I was in BL last month,  before I got onto this branch of the tree and found they were in India!

I discovered a couple of voyages that an Edwin John Ewbank Guest made.

Departing 15th Jan 1948, Southampton to Bombay on the STRATHMORE,
Edwin was aged 44 (born est 1904).       He was a Loco Driver, and he came from Belle View, Warren Rd, Bexley Heath.

Departing 12th Jan 1950, London to Bombay on the HIMALAYA, Edwin is now 47.     This time, he was coming from 27 Oaklands Rd, Bexley Heath.
Again he is a Loco Driver.

I can give you a tiny bit of info about a GUEST marriage in India, but I have no idea if this would be connected with your ancestors.

1885.  Louisa Guest at CHAKRATA, INDIA married either John Hutton or George F Wilkinson.     Page 157, GRO Army Marriages 1881 - 1955.
