Help in China - please!!
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 12:54 BST (UK) »
Enid Hope Giles was born in Cape Colony in 1907. in Oct 1934 she is listed on board the Sijarabak, going to China via India as a nursing sister.

Can anybody help me find out what happened to her?

Best wishes

Hello Pat

I have a feeling she may have married in China....

Sailing from China, aboard The Oxfordshire , arriving in England 5th December 1945 , were....

ENID HOPE Flanaghan age 38
Brian Thomas Flanaghan age 40
Joanna Mary age 6
Bridget Jane age 5
Anthony Charles age 3

Their address was given as 36, Sneyd Road London WW2

Enid Hope Flanaghan , born 21st December 1906, died in 2000, and was registered in the June qtr at Chichester.....

Hope this helps, I will see if I can find anything further

Kind Regards

Hello Pat

It is definitely your girl. They had two further children when they got back to England, and the maiden name is given as Giles . I have found the birth registrations for Anthony and Bridget at Shanghai......

Brian Flanagan was a Merchant, and you will find him travelling a lot to China upto 1960. he died in 1977. The address they gave in 1945, was that of his parents. They sailed to China in 1940, with Joanna as a 10month old. I wonder if they became Prisoners of War ?

I found Enid, by just putting her christian names, and year of birth, into the search engine on A******* and struck lucky .

Now for some ironing !

Regards
