union workhouse grimsby
« on: Monday 09 July 12 15:55 BST (UK) »
hi,
My grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Dennis nee Allbones 1879---1909.She died in the Union Workhouse Grimsby of Gangreen of the feet and syncope ( doesn't everyone faint at some time ?) I assume as she had family she was admitted there and died in the hospital, due to no NHS. is there any info available on this place ? Would these people be buried there and is the place still standing ? I appreciate the large amount of questions I have asked but you have been so helpful to me in the past I know someone can possibly answer a part of it
I remain grateful in anticipation

Hi there
The old workhouse in Grimsby is in part still standing (just) and some of it is still in use as part of the current hospital. Some buildings are however in a sorry state and no longer in use.

Thanks, I think we shall have a ride across the river when the weather gets better.
