WW1 uniform Help Please

I'm trying to find out about the type of the uniform in the picture, the picture was taken about 1916/17 if can get conformation on the uniform this will help me Identify the chap in the photo.

Chappers any chance of higher quality scan of collar badges?
Possibly Royal Marines Artillery but thats first glance guess

Possible Royal Artillery or Royal Engineers, I would opt for Royal Artillery.

As there doesn't look to be a scroll at the base of the ball I'd go for the RMA as well. Plus the uniform looks to be quite dark in colour (dark blue?).

Hi Guys,
many thanks for all your help, I have now managed to narrow the search, two brothers Arthur Charles Aylen, Royal Engineers and William A Aylen, Royal Artillery, I have found medal records for one and the other his service record,  I'm going to re- scan the picture to see if I can enharnce the button or collar badges any more,
