I'm wondering how to interpret what you said:
I have been given a letter that Henry wrote mentions his wife Irene, (remembering it is dated 1935), and a daughter Florence! In the letter he writes..."as there is not many of my mother's people living now only Florence her daughter and myself"
Josephine died in 1932, so he remarried, to Irene, no?
When he says "Florence her daughter", isn't that Florence his mother's daughter, i.e. his sister?
So I don't think
he had a daughter Florence -- unless there is something else in the letter, that you didn't quote, that indicates this? If there is, could it be that Irene was a widow when they married, and she had a daughter Florence?
If he was referring to Florence his sister, he didn't mention his own daughter Mary because he was talking about his mother's "people", her own immediate family (i.e. her own siblings and parents were deceased).
