"William Robert Scarisbrick, we believe he was born in Uruguay in 1890. I am currently trying to track down a birth certificate for him however it is proving to be hard work! William Robert married Caroline Morris in 1913 in Liverpool."

(a posting from GR)

So you should start by getting the 1913 marriage cert.

Ancestry has his WW1 military papers in its British Army WW1 Pension Records database. Ignore the bit about him being born in South Leith - it's a mistranscription of Santa Ana, Montevideo

the 1913 marriage will (probably) give a father.
Even a witness name will help if they turn out to be family.

Get the marriage to progress it further back.
It seems it wasn't Liverpool, or even lancashire, but cheshire.

Scarisbrick,

I suggest you purchase Caroline's death cert for £9-25 from the GRO- that will give you more clues as to whether William was still alive at that time, and confirm the exact date that she died.

So that's a death cert and a marriage cert you need to buy now  ;D

Do you know what children they had?

You may find it really difficult to get his birth cert as he was born in Uruguay.

Casting the net a bit wider...

Jane Scarisbrick's husband Andrew Wells was a retired policeman.

The 1891 census for Liverpool has another retired policeman, Robert Scarisbrick, 63, born Formby with 5 children born in Montevideo.  There must be a connection !
