The Southwark William Hall Hatmaker lead location fits the 1794 first known info of William in Leeds 1795 first mention also this James Hall fits merchants and cloth goods, shop keepers etc-Willaim Hall did travel along way to Cumbria to marry Isabella from Leeds, so coming to Leeds from London is not that unrealistic.

Being a hat maker or milliner is a trade that takes time to learn by apprenticeship and that is a puzzle but he turned to a Woolstapler merchant similar to this James Hall Southwark.#

Take this as is! based on a theory that William had to be taught the Milliner/Hatmaker trade, either by his father, or an apprenticeship bought by either his father or a  poor boy paid by a parish  poorlaw overseers of the poor.

This all poses more questions...was Thomas the father or a brother. Are all the Williams the same person or is William, the son also involved. William, the father died in Leeds in 1828

We're still digging. It's possible that the William's could not be the same ones...William had a son William who was a woolstapler...was in London from the 1830's

The Thomas was not a son..William's son Thomas was not born until 1824...he had no Thomas by his first marriage so if they're related he could only be a brother or father.

We are currently trying to find where William came from...checking Stockport where his original partner James Daniel came from.

I have written to the archives at Sheepscar..last time we were there they mentioned that they have business records.

We'll keep digging and hopefully get a breakthrough....thanks again for all your help

I know about William's son Thomas Henry Hall b 1824 bapt 1844 Birstall abode Leeds

I was working on the directory 1815 Thomas Hall Hatter 91 Briggate Leeds
with William who died 1828 age 58.

The fact that this Thomas Hall Hatter 1815 directory disappeared by the 1817 directory and the 1816 death of Thomas Hall aged 56 in Leeds maybe the brother of William Hall death 1828 not his son Thomas Henry Hall b 1824



There could  be another possible baptism of William Hall who died 1828 Leeds age 58 = b 1770




To the south of Cookermouth is a village called  Pardshaw
