My great great grandfather, Michael John Purcill was born in "Glasgow, Lanarkshire" in 1816 (or thereabouts!) according to census returns.
However, the first official record I can find for him is his marriage to my great great grandmother in Laois, Ireland in 1834. I have been unable to find any trace of him before this and the only information I have regarding his parents is from the certificate for his second marriage which lists his father as "John Percy". Michael John had dropped the Michael and changed his surname to Percy by this time so suspect his father may not have been just John either.
If anyone has ever located any records pertaining to a family in the area with a son called Michael John Purcill at this time I'd love to hear from you! It has been a puzzle that I have been trying to solve for many, many years and feel like I'm running out of places to look for him in the hopes of being able to find my 3x great grandparents!
Many thanks!
Sarah
