Sara PESKETT marriage to Thomas LEWRY
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 09:26 BST (UK) »
Believed to have been married on 7 July, 1816, in Albourne, Sussex.

Thomas was born 1794, Twineham, Sussex. The son of William LEWRY and Lucy PARKER.
However, I have no additional information for Sara PESKETT, other than PESKETT is a Sussex 'name' too. Simply seeking any additional family information on Sara, of any description, with a view to enhance my knowledge on this lady, who's my g-g-g-g-grandmother.

Thank you, in advice for any assistance, forth coming on this mater.

Without ages to go on the search for Sara(h) can be difficult.  I have found a 34 year old Sarah Lewry on the SFHG Database who might suit.  She was buried in Hurstpierpoint in 1827, therefore born c1793 and of similar age to Thomas.

Do you have any knowledge that your Sara was alive (such as producing any children) after 1827, for the oldest child of theirs I have found was baptised in Albourne in 1826?  If not, your Sarah may have been the daughter of George & Sarah Peskett who the IGI have as being baptised in nearby Hurstpierpoint on 18 Feb 1793.

Thomas could then have remarried for in 1834 there is the first baptism in Albourne to Thomas & Jane, probably Jane Parsons, who a Thomas Lewry married in Albourne 1833 (IGI)  Roy G

Hi Roy G,

Thank you for that info. Sara and Thomas had 4 children, George, Ann, Maria and Caroline, with Caroline having been born in 1826. Thomas then re-marries,  a Susan EDWARDS, on 2 Feb, 1828, again, in Albourne, Sussex. Therefore, from that info., which I already knew, I could only assume that Sara died between the dates of 1826 and 1828. The info. you have provided simply confirms my guess work.

I will work on the names of George and Sarah.

Again, thank you for your help, on this mater.

JL.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for the info. My mistake!

I put in my previous reply that Thomas married Susan EDWARDS on 2 Feb.. Wrong date, I know. That was the day and month he married his third wife, Jane PARSONS.

The remainder of the info., you have kindly provided, I already have.

Further to that info. could you look at Sara(h) PESKETT, and see if there may be more info. on George PESKETT and Sarah(who may well be her parents). Unfortunately, I have no further info. other than their names, provided by RoyG.

Thank you.

JL.

There appear to be no siblings to Sarah baptised in Hurstpierpoint, but a baptism of John Peskett to a George Peskett and Sarah Tugwell in Cuckfield in 1787 might be a family fit.  Unfortunately my copy of the SMI does not work on this particular computer, so I cannot tell you when or even if George and Sarah Tugwell ever married, but Ian may have the answer.

(note: The names Peskett and Pescod have on occasions been miss-transcribed.  Keep this in mind when searching the indexes for references.)   Roy G

There is no marriage for George Peskett or variants to a Sarah Tugwell on the SMI.  I will see if I can look at the original Cuckfield record in 1787 to see if it holds any clues.

An initial search into the possibility of a Peskett-Tugwell connection seems to radiate further uncertainty.

Around 1788, a Sarah Tugwell is recorded as having married an Edward Aldridge in nearby Clayton and a George Peskett of Hurstpierpoint is recorded as having married a Martha Carter in 1787.  Furthermore, that particular Martha (nee Carter) may have died in Hurstpierpoint aged about 78 in 1839.

Unless Martha Peskett was also known as Sarah, following this line might be a bum steer.   Roy G
