Pleased to help.  ;D

I see that George's brother died in Qld in 1925 and there is a photo of him on Ancestry.  Did you find it?

Cheers
Cando

Hi Everyone,

Re George's brother Joesph Jnr - yes Cando, a member of the Newton Family emailed me the photo of Joesph. :)

I would like to thank everyone who helped me in this post - Bernie is over the moon, just brings us a little closer to finding out what happened to his father, Herbert George and Frances Mabel.  We will just keep 'soldiering on' and try to put the jigsaw into its correct place.

Many thanks
Jo & Bernie xx

I have looked on QLD BDM I know some of the information above is correct as I have found it through some family sources but keep hitting a wall. any help would be appreciated! although above there is listed 9 siblings I was told there was 13 so now im confused, as I am searching for their names!

Hi danielle2102,

 :D Welcome to RootsChat  :D

This is my opinion on the children....

Lavinia Charlotte Miriam FONTAINE (died London?)
Birth Registered December Quarter 1862
Camberwell
London
Volume:  1d
Page:  522

Maria Louise Emma FONTAINE (died Qld 1916 STUART)
Birth Registered March Quarter 1864
Camberwell
London
Volume:  1d
Page:  558

Frances Mary Ann Lucy FONTAINE (died 1867 Qld)
Birth Registered September Qtr 1865
Camberwell
London
Volume:  1d
Page:  549

I think that the first child Lavinia died as the immigration record (Queen of the South, 1865) names the children as Maria aged 1, and Frances, an infant.  However there was a daughter named Lavinia who died in Queensland in 1931 as WALL.  (Parents named in the hard copy indexes, but not in the online indexes)  I would want confirmation of her age before I assumed that she was the daughter born in London and was simply omitted from the immigration record.  Her burial record at Gayndah says that she was born c1863 in Liverpool, England.

Births in Queensland

1867/C1379  Unnamed (F)             Fontaine   Gill   Lovinia Reder (died 1867)
1868/C284    Louis William             Fontane   Gille   Livenia Rider (died 1884)
1870/C207    Charlotte Frances      Fontaine   Gille   Lavinia Rider (married 1889 BRAZIN)
1871/C244       August James          Fontaine   Gille   Lavinia Rider (died 1957)
1874/C341    Thurza Elizabeth        Fontaine   Gille   Lavinia Ann Morris Rider (died 1949 TIMPERLEY)
1875/C444    Augusta Lucy            Fontaine   Gille   Lavinia Ann Morris Rider (died 1922)
1877/C782    Gille Joseph Charles  Fontaine   Gille   Lavinia Ann Morris Rider (died 1960)
1879/C978    Emma Mabel             Fontaine   Gille   Lavinia Ann Morris Rider (died 1950 BENTLEY)
1881/C1224  Alice Georgina           Fontaine   Gille   Lavenia Ann Morris Rider (died 1947 GURDLER)

That would make 13 children if there were in fact two Lavinias born.

Either of the parents' death certificates should list all children, living and deceased.

thanks yes the only 2 children that immigrated to Australia were Maria and (Charlotte (Frances)) there were two Lavinia's from my details I am missing 3 of the children although my notes (I wrote them almost 12mths ago, had to stop whilst I was studying coz it was too much. well more too distracting). Said 13 known children, although stupid me didn't write them down and cannot find where I originally found them. Still trying to work it all out I seem to need to refine my search skills on the government sites like BDM coz QLD is different set up from WA
Can you direct me Debra to where you located the 3 deaths above? I get lost when I start searching pre- Australia

Cheers Dawn, I did see it was August, I was glad to just see it was the same year. Most of the time when I am seen things on forums it's been years. So i just thought id post a message in the hope someone might be able to help me get started where to look as there was a lot of information already being bounced around on here!
