Possible Norfolk Marriage and Divorce

I was looking on the Free BMD index and it lists marriages/divorce.

In the late 1870's was it possible to get a divorce and have it registered.  I would assume the female would revert to her maiden name.

According to the index there was a marriage or divorce of Eliza (Spinks) listed as 4B page 216.

Any help or possible answers appreciated.

Freebmd has a marriage for Elizabeth Spinks ref Norwich 4b 216 June qtr 1879 - not sure what you mean about a divorce though as freebmd only lists births marriages and deaths

ADDED - it looks as though she could have married John Jermy - in 1881 she was age 23 bn Norwich    There was also a Alice Spinks age 17 staying with them

Thank you for the PM - hope you don't mind but I am posting it on here so others can see what we are looking at.

Jan Feb mar 1876 there is a marriage of Elizabeth Spinks  in Norwich 4B 176 and the second one is in 1879 also in in Norwich 4b 216

The Eliza(beth I am looking for was born about 1854 in Elmsett Suffolk d/o Mary Ann and John Spinks.

The Eliza i am looking for had a daughter born in 1879 registered Oct Nov Dec name Rachel.

I am thinking there may have been a divorce as Eliza is listed as Eliza Spinks in subsequent document, and Rachel Eliza is with her grandmother Mary Ann in the 1881 census.

Eliza Spinks the mother died in 1884 in the Norfolk Union

So far I can not find the mother Eliza in the 1881 census

Presumably you have Rachel Eliza's birth certificate confirming that her mother is Eliza.    Does this certificate name a father, if not this would indicate that Rachel was illegitimate. 

As Eliza died under the name of Eliza Spinks I would imagine that she never married.  There is an Eliza Spinks marrying in Thetford reg district but I would imagine she is the one who is living there in 1871.

Divorce at that time would be extremely expensive.

The surname Spink/Spinks is widespread in Essex/Suffolk/Norfolk so the marriage references could be two separate ladies.
