Lookup request - Roddick
« on: Saturday 30 June 12 22:07 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone help me, I am looking for information on Gordon James Roddick born in n Cardiff about 1902 married Winifred Eleanor Richards in 1929, my grandparents (long passed on) He worked for the western mail for many years.
I have found a 1901 census record for Ann st in canton cardiff with a family of Roddick's living there, head of household was Thomas Richards, if someone could take a look at the 1911 census and see if the same family has a son called Gordon James at about the right age I would be grateful.
Cheers

Phil

Hi Phil

I'm sorry, but requests for look-ups in this census are not allowed on RootsChat.

However, there are plenty of suggestions and advice on this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,492718.0.html

Remember if you are using Ancestry, the complete census is not yet online.  FindMyPast, GR and the official 1911 site do have the complete census for England & Wales.

Gordon James Roddick of 29 Ty Fry Rd Rumney died 21.3.1958 at St Davids Hospital Cardiff

Administration granted 18.7.1958 to his widow Winifred Eleanor

Effects £1968.14s.3d

The free 1911 index has an entry for him living in Cardiff.  Follow the instructions below for other family members

USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living

Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else

In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district

In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index

Click SEARCH

The 1911 census is strictly pay per view so you will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same surname in the same household

Hi

On your other post - a reply timed at 21.08 advised you that 1911 lookups were not allowed

You acknowledged that reply at 22.02pm but went on to again ask for a 1911 lookup on this post at 22.07

Thanks for the links on both topics, Crisane.

Carole, thank you the Moderators are quite capable of dealing tactfully with any transgressions, inadvertent or otherwise. Please try not to be so abrupt to other users.

Clotty, you're welcome to continue on this thread using resources that are freely available to our "helpers" but I've locked your other topic to avoid duplication of effort, which can cause annoyance when people are giving their time freely. Hope you find the clues you need.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

H Clotty
do you actually want to follow the Roddicks back through the censuses or was it just the one census you were interested in?
