Let me just say that the idea that someone manning a display stand in London would know what happened to a particular original Irish GRO record strikes me as improbable.  Especially when one considers that there are two copies of all registration records, held (historicaly) in physically separate locations.

That said, here is what is probably the birth of your man.

Dear Wexflyer
WOW......All these years on from my original post and I'm still searching for evidence to determine which of all the Thomas Powers out there is my Grandfather to take that line of my tree back. It is especially important to his son, my Uncle now in his 80's who would love to find out who his Irish Grandparents were.Thankyou so much for suggesting this record to me. The striking thing is the birth address  of Jones Hill even though the birth year is a few years adrift from that shown in his Navy service record. His Aunt Mary McGrath of Jones Hill witnessed his attestation papers. I will certainly follow up this lead. Thank you so much again.

The birth year is only six years off - not that unusual. People back then simply did not know when they were born! Given the extra details you just posted, I think you can be reasonably confident that this is your man.
