Elizabeth Hill 1790 in Kentucky
« on: Saturday 30 June 12 16:09 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the parents of my great-great-great-great-great grandmother Elizabeth Hill. She was born in 1790 in Kentucky. She married a gentleman named Abraham Wallace. I'm not that great with 18th century records. Where should I look to find her parents? She lived in Jefferson, Kentucky with her husband.

Hi californialife,

You would need to check the Hill surnames in Jefferson, KY during the time she was born. That would involve tax lists, deeds, Last Wills, court case files, pension applications, et al. Hopefully one of those will link a Hill family to your ancestor, with a mention of her.

This website mentions the surrounding counties of Jefferson, in case they were not directly from there:

You can ask for guidance about the documents held by these facilities:

Kentucky State Archives
http://kdla.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspx

Historical Society - Filson Library
http://www.filsonhistorical.org/

Jefferson County Clerk's Office, Louisville, KY
http://www.jeffersoncountyclerk.org/default.asp

Hopefully, either the archives or the library already have a surname file
and genealogies for Hill families from the area. That would be a nice break!

Best of luck ~
Kate

If you have access to Heritage Quest Books, through your local library, you can check county histories for some mention of your relatives.  If you don't have access to HQ, then here is another link which might help:

Wondering if Peggy has found the parents by googling   ???  Will have another look just incase.

Such a shame the Shelby Historical Society won't help with research but have you tried the Shelby Public Library - e-mail a librarian to see if they could look at the marriage, incase there is further information the family search site doesn't show ?
