well tara, I hardly dare tell you what I've found out. I remebered that MiL gets a round robin letter every year from "a relative in America". she doesn't even know what the relationship is. Anyway, I wrote to him and he emailed me straight back and his information is staggering. He has supplied the names of Francis parents and all of his dscendants. It appears that francis and Bridget were not the only family to go to america. however, where they came back, many of them stayed. There are about 200 of them over the years and ( gulp) he has named every one of them, and sent many photos too. The family originate from Cloonkeen in Galway. I wont be placing all of them in the family tree and some of them are too far removed, but he has also sent many notes that he has transcribed over the years and it is very interesting. he is the greatgranson of francis brother Michael.
So, I have what I needed, now perhaps I'll try and trace Bridgets family.
thanks
kath

Ahah, now I have the marriage cert of Francis and Bridget. dated 6/7/1878, they were married in Warrington, Francis was 24, Bridget 22 ( but I'm not convinced of this date, I think she may have added a few years in order to marry without permission and emigrate to USA- I may be wrong, but future census details back this up, also her death record suggests birth in 1859, so 3 years out). Bridgets father named as James Mulligan ( deceased), and gives an address in Warrington, but doesn't state where her mother is or what her name is/was. So, back to the drawing board. How to trace Bridgets family in Mayo?
