1871 Census - JONES - Tendring
« on: Monday 23 May 05 05:56 BST (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone find AGNES JONES on the 1871 please.  She should be 14 and probably living in Kirby le Soken or maybe Oakley.  If you can find her father James Jones as well that would be a bonus!

Thank you

Hi

The only Agnes Jones I can find on the 1871 census

Agnes Jones c1847 middlesex servant Kirby Essex
RG10/1678 Pg 1

Had a good look at the census and it could read 14 not 24 so the year could be c1857

Hello Mimosa

Thank you - that looks like her.  Is there an address please or the rest of the household?  I don't know what the 1871 census looks like so not sure what I can ask you for.

Thanks again

Thanks Alan

The name Cole also crops up in the family - so may I have the names of the household please.

Also can you find a Sarah Smee anywhere in any of your census sources?  We have found that at Agnes Jones marriage to Charles Barfield in 1875 his three sisters were witnesses along with the lady called Sarah SMEE - about whom we know nothing.  We are hoping that she will be Agnes's witness and may give us more clues about her.  Probably best to look in the 1871 for Kirby to start with.

Further to your comment about William being Agnes's father (see your reply re 1861 census) - the information from the marriage certificate states that James Jones is her father - now of course that may be wrong for all sorts of reasons.  I think we need to find her birth certificate but there is the nub of the problem!  She states on all censuses that she was born in Middlesex but the 1861 states that she was born in Kirby.  Do you know if anyone is willing to look up Kirby records on this site?

Many thanks for all you searching.

Hi Verona

1871

Henry Baker c1822 Kirby Essex Head
Jane Baker c1823 Kirby Essex Wife
Mary Jane Baker c1854 Kirby Essex Daughter
Agnes Jones c1847 Middlesex London Servant
Ellen Snare c1851 Kirby Essex Servant

RG10/1678 Pg 1
Address looks like
1 Kirby Mews Farm
Kirby
Essex

as I said before on checking the census I would say that the age for Agnes is 14 making her birth date c1857
