Hughes and Clinton -Dun Laoghaire
« on: Friday 29 June 12 14:55 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find any information on my great grandparents, but i dont really have much to go on.

Richard Hughes and Christina Hughes ''Maiden name was CLINTON'', 47 Eden Villa's Dun Laoghaire. I'm trying to find out about his family and where he was from and same info about Christina Clinton. I cant seem to find any records on them, not in the 1901 or 1911 census.

I have no dates of births for them, but I can tell you their eldest daughter Theresa/Teresa was born in 1921. They had about 12 kids, two sons died in the house as the result of a tragic gas accident in 1944. Richard was always away in the Merchant Navy. They moved to the UK in 1955

possible marriage from the BMD Index... worth checking to see if it fit's, especially since the bride's name is quite rare, and the district is correct for Dún Laoghaire..

  Name: Christina Clinton
  Registration district:   Rathdown
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1928
  Volume : 2 / Page : 639

also with the same references is a Richard Hughes

There are also Index entries for some possible children.. which I'll send to you by PM , since they are too recent for inclusion in a reply here.

Hi there

Looks like you will need to get the marriage cert that Shane has given you the reference for to get their father's names and occupations.

No defo matches for Richard, but presuming that Christina was actually from Dublin there is only one match that I can see

christina clinton 1911 ?

Tara

something else that might be helpful....they both died in 1986 (8 months apart) in Manchester, and are both buried in Manchester.

Hi again,

Presuming the marriage cert confirms that Christina's father was Thomas - this is her in 1901

christina clinton 1901

This would then be her baptism

christina clinton baptism

This would then appear to be the marriage of her parents

thomas and susan clinton marriage

Her mother's surname being Pugolas - very unusual

This is the marriage of a brother of Susan Pugolas

michael pugolas marriage

This has the baptisms of children of Thomas and Susan

thomas and susan clinton children's baptisms

There is a lot on the Pugolas' on irishgenealogy - there are a LOT of different spellings of this surname though !

Tara

i've run that info by a family member, and they said Christina would have been born in 1911/1912, that would answer why i cant find her in the 1901 or 1911 census

Hi again,
I was out in the Genealogy Society of Ireland’s office this evening going through the parish records for St Michaels Church and found your G/Grandparents marriage details.

Spouse Richard Hughes
Address 9, Bentley Villas Dun Laoghaire
Parents John and Margaret (nee Doyle)
Bride Christine Clinton
Address 30, Lwr. Georges Street Dun Laoghaire.
Parents Christopher and Theresa (nee Cullen)
Witnesses Patrick Kelly South King Street Dublin and
Mary Clinton 30, Lwr. Georges Street Dun Laoghaire.
Celebrant Ludvic Potter.

This is the 1911 Census return for your G/Grandfather Richard Hughes
As you said your G/Grandmother had yet to make an appearance? but her parents were living here on Census night.
