George Millington
« on: Friday 29 June 12 04:00 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for relatives of George Millington. He served in the 40th RFA battery, 43rd Brigade and was friends with my grandfather Frederick G. Coxen.

I have my grandfather's WWI journal and George is in many entries so I would like to share.

I would also like to find a chap by the name of Collins. My grandfather didn't reference whether it was a first or last name. I realize it is a shot in the dark but perhaps.

For those interested my book, "The Great Promise" will be released this August. I've received excellent reviews related to the compelling journal entries. The journal contains many names of those men my grandfather served with.

according to the results for 1901 cen there are 32 george millingtons born between 1895 -1900 but of course he could have been born a bit earlier as well , apart from a relative finding your post what would help is if he has a service record on ancestry and we know what a lottery that can be .

There is a medal card for 33236 George Millington of 43 RFA, who appears to have risen through the ranks to be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Thank to everyone for your contribution - I'll go to ancestry and search for my needle in their haystack.

I believe his full name was George Henry Millington. Found several family trees and selected a few that looked promising. Sent messages to owners of the trees asking if their George had served with the RFA. I'll post if I receive a reply.

OK! Lets have a contest! If anyone can locate a living relative of George Henry Millington who served in the 40th battery, 43rd Brigade of the RFA during WWI with Mil #33236 WINS - drum beat - A signed copy of my new book (being released this August) "The Great Promise".  A deal hard to resist I know.

I'll try to attach a letter my grandfather wrote to the RFA records dept in 1936 that might be helpful.

The George Millington I mentioned earlier (43rd RFA, service number 33236 or 33226) served in 40th Battery per his June 1915  DCM citation, so it seems pretty likely to be him. He was then a Sergeant but he was later commissioned per his MIC. The address on the back of his MIC is in Portsea, Hampshire. There is no middle initial given on either of these documents.
