Priestley family from clayton or wibsey
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 07:31 BST (UK) »
can someone do a census look up for me, I am researching my priestley family from newington nr london and I find the bride in an 1811 marriage there, was born in wibsey, york in 1787, following is a copy of the birth someone on rootsweb found for me "Sarah Priestley, Baptism 14 Jan 1787  at Wibsey, York, England  - Father Jonathan Priestley " - I would appreciate it if someone could look up the nearest census after this birth, or before, or both so I can find more about this family.  On the 1851 census in surrey/london, it said sarah priestley was born in clayton and apparently that is close to wibsey.  I am in new zealand so don't know much about these towns.  Help would be appreciated.

There are no census records prior to 1841 where names are recorded.

The entry from the PRs is
Bradford, Wibsey Chapel
1787 Jan 14, Sarah, d/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY, Edge End, Weaver

Siblings at same church
1778 Feb 1, Abraham, s/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY, Weaver, of Edge End
1780 Mar 26, David, s/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY of Revey, weaver
1782 May ??, Sussy, d/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY of Ede End in Wibsey, weaver
1784 Sep 19, Jonathan, s/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY of Edgeend, weaver - buried 1792 May 29
1789 Nov 8, Matty, d/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY of Edge End, weaver
1791 Feb 20, Hannah, d/o Jonathan PRIESTLEY of Edge End, weaver

Do any of these names match up with children of Sarah and James.

Possible marriage at Halifax St John the Baptist
Jonathan PRIESTLEY of Ovenden in this parish, weaver
Hannah CLAYTON of the same place spinster
Married by Banns 18 Jul 1773

that is so great.  Sarah b 1787 had several children amongst them a jonathan, sarah, hannah, obviously named after her mum, dad and herself (she also had children named benjamin, thomas james, amelia, maria louisa and nancy) her husband was james priestley, so may have been a relation or just a coincidence.  everything matches up sarah's mge in 1811, her birth in 1787, her brothers and sisters and parents and the pob.  thanks so much - I really appreciate all the trouble you have gone to.  people have been so helpful on the various sites - one strange thing though, sarah's pob was clayton and her mum's maiden name was clayton?

My family name is Priestley and was told they were originally from Yorkshire and came to Northern Ireland. They were weavers. William Priestley. Born early 1800s, but no trace of birth record.
It’s a long shot, just wondered.
They came to Co Down a town land called Drumadonald.
