Thankyou for that Gaffy, not only did I find that marriage, but a second one to Sarah Hinds in 1868. One son from this marriage (Valentine) was born/baptised in Knocknadora,1871, is it likely that children born of the first marriage would also be baptised there,  I can't find any between 1856 and 1868 on Family Search, can't even find Jeremiah's birth in 1875 and he is with his widowed mother Sarah on the 1901 census. Hi,
In the Mackey/Drummond marriage the father is listed as John Mackay. In the MACKAY/ Hinds marriage the father is listed as Alexander Mackay.

Thankyou all, you must be up early !! (or late). It hadn't registered that of the two marriages for Alexander Mackey, first to Mary Jane Cummins and then to Sarah Hinds, that the father's name was different. Alexander was recorded as a widower when he married Sarah and I jumped to the wrong conclusion. Though I wonder if the record has been transcribed correctly, or perhaps a misunderstanding with the vicar (I'm clutching at straws). Alexander was definitely a farmer, not a shoemaker, however his son Edmund became a shoemaker (I have sent for a marriage certificate for him, so hopefully I've got the right one). Kingskerswell, where did you find the birth record for Edmund, 1868? (are you from Devon, with a name like that ).  I found the passenger list for Valentine, going to America in 1892. I have requested a researcher ot look up the Royal Irish Constabulary records for Alexander junior, you never know, it might turn up something on his birth. Regards  Moya

I have more info on this. Alexander married Mary Jane Cummins in 1856, at Ballinderry Church. Her father John Cummins made a will in 1874 leaving 1 pound sterling to his daughter Mary Jane Mackey alias Cummins, he died in 1878. Presumably Mary Jane was alive in 1874 and probably in 1878, so the Alexander Mackey who married Sarah Hinds in1868 at Magheragall was not the same person. I feel the Alexander who I am looking for who was born in 1864 was probably the son of Mary Jane, but I can't find any record of any children born to this marriage. Has anyone any suggestions.  Moya

Hello Gaffy.  Where did you find the births for Albert Ford and Frederick ?  Have further unconfirmed information that the Alexander Mackey(father James) who married Mary Jane Cummins emigrated to Ohio USA, so that rules them out  being the parents of Alexander born 1864. What I can't understand is why I can't find a death for the wife of Alexander who married Sarah Hinds in 1868, as he is recorded as a widower maybe he took children into his second marriage. Moya
