hi,i am researching this family.
Harriett Newman b abt 1875 orton leics,can find her with parents 1881 Edward and Catherine,Ashby Road Burton on Trent.1891 Harriet in Newhall,Derbyshire,with Josiah Hughes and children,as step daughter. 1901 Harriett is in workhouse in Horninglow Burton on Trent with 3 children.
1911 census states married 5yrs.Cant find marriage abt 1906 for Harriett Newman and John Morris until 1915 Burton on Trent.
could they have lied on the 1911 cencus?Sent for grandma,s birth certificate, born 9.5.1911  which states her parents as John Morris and Harriett Newman!!  ???

they wouldn't be the only the people on the 1911 census to adjust the date of marriage to one before the birth of their eldest child.

Re the 1911 Birth Cert - was Harriet shown as "Morris  nee  Newman" or just as "Newman" ?

Hi Mick,niceto hear from you. The info you sent is as of 1860 and forwards.Sarah Ann Newman MN,did marry Josiah Hughes 1880 Sarah died march  1891, before the census was taken, 1891 her sister Harriet b 1877 is living with Josiah in Newhall,Derbyshire,as stepsister? Josiah is a widower on 1891 census..she would be sister inlaw.This may, be, because she had lost both parents by 1888,and he and Sarah took Harriet on as their own.
The birth certificate states the parents as John Morris and Harriet Newman."JUST NEWMAN"
If i send for marriage certificate for John and Harriet 1915,hopfully it will give their ages(fingers crossed)TRUE AGES
Wont hold my breath...If this states Dale Street !! as their address,,then i am on the right track.bye for now..Carol
