Henry Sutton & family Warwickshire 1921
« on: Friday 22 June 12 15:16 BST (UK) »
On behalf of a friend, I am trying to trace what happended to a Henry Sutton. His daughter,  Dorothy Kathleen Sutton, was born in Warwickshire in 1921 we believe.

Dorothy's mother was Kate Louise (Gerrard) Sutton and she married Henry in Devonport, Devon in 1919. (She has the marriage certificate).  We can find no trace of him before his marriage nor what happened to him after that but it has been suggested that he became a trawlerman.

Has anyone any suggestions on where we should look for further information? e.g. Electoral Roll records etc.

We are also trying to find out what happended to John Leslie Gerrard who was Kate Louise's first son to a previous husband who diedin 1915.  John Leslie was born in Edmonton in June 1910 and is seen on the 1911 Census.  He would have been only 9 when Kate Louise remarried.  Did he change his name to Sutton, did he go to Warwickshire?  So many questions...but cleverer brains than ours might be able to suggest where else to search.
Thanks

Thank you so much for all the helpful information.  I had missed quite a lot in my search.

Details on Kate and Henry's Marriage Certificate are:

Henry Sutton (Widower) Age 34  Chief Petty Officer RN - address: St Budeaux Camp, Devonport

Father was Charles Sutton deceased (Ganger G. E. Railway)

Witnesses: Richard Ashworth, Ruth A. Ashworth

Marriage took place (By Licence) at the Belmont Wesleyan Chapel, Devonport

The Sutton family seem quite elusive as we can find nothing about them !!

Thank you so much for your help so far.

Have you discounted the Henry George Sutton b.1884 RN in the 1911 census.
edit:
Not him,1901 says his father is Arundal.
The Great Eastern Railway (East Anglia) has a society.I believe there are employee records from around 1862 onwards available:
http://www.gersociety.org.uk/
As Charles Sutton worked there it's fair to say the family came from this region.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have emailed the Great Eastern Railway !

I have run out of ideas of where to search further.
