He is not on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site so he should have survived the war.

yeah he did, but then he disappeared after it. he killed himself in 1924, i believe he had shell shock. Just trying to fill in the gaps over the war years. Where would he have fought etc.

Martin mullaney, royal garrison artillery, roll 128B, pg 2764, private, reg no 764 334440, rifle brigade.
I think you've got the details of two different men mixed up there!

The Royal Garrison Artillery man is 61580 Martin (Francis) Mullaney, born Kiltimagh, Mayo, in 1893, but resident in Salford when he enlisted on 31 Oct 1915 aged 22 and 10 months. Father's name Patrick of Ardboley, Balla, Mayo. He served throughout the war with the RGA, mainly in France, and was discharged on 2 Mar 1919 (with A1 fitness, no mention of shell shock).
His full service record is on Ancestry!

The Rifle Brigade man was born c.1866 (doesn't say where), enlisted on 11 Feb 1915. Served as 764 in the Rifle Brigade, 3860 in the Leicestershire Regiment (it says, but I suspect it might be an error for Leinster Regt - 3860 seems too low for a wartime transfer to the Leics), and 334440 in the Labour Corps in the UK. He served overseas but was only entitled to the British War Medal, which usually indicates service in a rear area well away from the front, in India or some such place. He was discharged Sick on 27 Jun 1918.
This info comes from his medal index card and his Silver War Badge roll entry.

There's also a "pension" record for Martin (although at one point is says Mark) Mullaney, born Bothale, Swanford, Mayo, c.1881, son of Mary, who enlisted in the 4th Bn King's Own (Royal Lancs) in Sep 1914 aged 33, but was discharged after only 44 days "not likely to become and efficient soldier".

thank you apwright - this makes sense now . I was working off scribbled notes from research done years ago.   Its definitely the first guy. He was actually born in1891 according to parish records but i'm 100% its him. Straight to ancestry to me!  Would this fella have got a pension until his death does anyone know? thanks again for al the help.
