Morris, Staffordshire
« on: Wednesday 20 June 12 10:12 BST (UK) »
Hello
Please can anybody help?
I am interested in finding Thomas Morris born 1/6/1842 at Brettell Lane. His parents were Thomas Morris, an Engineer and Diana Morris nee Newton.
He married Alice Ward Wilkes in 1864 at Walsall.

regards
Rickie

Hi

1841 Census living in Kingswinford

Thomas Morris b 1811 Stafforshire Occ Engineer
Deannah Morris b 1811  ditto
Samuel b 1838
Elizabeth b 1840

On the parish  marriage record for Thomas and Diana it states her name was Dianah, so the above seems to fit for the parents of Thomas b 1842 but he is not with them ? where did the information come from for his birth date?

I cannot find another census for Dianah, did she die and Thomas remarried?

I have found other census for Thomas b 1811 Engineer that could be him, but the wife is named Mary?

Hi MargP
Thank you for getting back so quick.

I originally got the information regarding Thomas b. 1842 from the census sheets for 1871 and 1881. I then wrote to Dudley District Reg Office giving the details from the census sheets and they sent me the copy of the  birth certificate showing his parents names as Thomas and Diana formerly Newton.
With your help I have now found the 1841 entry and just above it is a Cornelius Newton & family. He could be related to her.

Brettell Lane is in the middle of a triangle formed by Kingswinford, Dudley and Stourbridge. I think it is near Brierley Hill.
regards
Rickie

The same family on the 1861 census

Thomas Morris b 1812 Brierley Hill occ Iron Shingler
Mary Morris b 1812         ditto
Samuel b 1838 it says Brierley Hill but I think that have the birth place the wrong way round with Thomas

What was Thomas b 1842 occupation

Sorry having an OAP moment there, he would not have been with them if he was born in 1842

Thank you for all this information. I have also just found the 1861 census.
I have also found 2 deaths for Dinah Morris, that I will have to look at.
The first, which seems most likely, gro ref Dec qtr 1848 but it is in KingsNorton district
Just a sec, this will tie into the 1851 census detail you gave me. Harborne is in the sub district of Kings Norton. The family must have moved there before she died.
Thank you again. I will send for this certificate.
regards
Rickie

Hi,
Sorry I forgot to answer your question about Thomas b. 1842. He was a Shingler in the Iron Industry
