Mary E Anderson/Thomas Clarke
« on: Sunday 22 May 05 15:19 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone out there who can help? I have scoured the 1837 site, BDM site and Ancestry.com site and cannot find the marriage of my grandparents.  I know that some of the records for Sculcoates ae still lodged at the Beverly office but they are not online and I live in Cyprus.
My grandmother was catholic and my grandfather who died when I was very small was supposedly from Ireland. They had 5 daughters who were all registered in his name and brought up in the catholic faith so I think they must have been married. Unfortunately they have all been dead for some time.  Help? please.

Best wishes

She was living at home under her maiden name on the 1901 census and the first daughter was born 7/2/1912 at home 1,York Terrace, Barnsley Street, Hull. She was registered by Mary Clarke, mother according to the certificate on 19h Feb, sub district of Sculcoates. I have tried all the intervening years with YorksBDM and "1837" and the latter took ages and cost me a fortune, is there any other place I should look?
I have just discovered that a LDS centre has been setup in the last few weeks in Limassol which is quite near me, are they a good site?
Thanks for your help,
June

Hi June

maybe you could email the Beverley archives with your request at
http://www.eastriding.gov.uk/libraries/archives/archives.html

but it might also be worth dropping in to the local LDS centre to see what records they have available.

happy hunting

Bee

ps. I'm just being nosey but whereabouts in Limassol do you live?  I've got happy memories of living there in the 70's

Hi Bee,
Thanks for your suggestion, my problem is the time span. They could have married anytime between 1901 and 1912!  They may also have married in another county as gran had relatives in Durham and Cumbria. I don't think the office at Beverley will be able to spend time trawling through 11yrs of wedding certs! I may have towait until I visit the U.K. again in the autumn.
I don't actually live in Limassol but in a tiny village north of there on the way to the Troodos mountains. My husband was stationed here in the early 60's with the R.A.F and you would see a great deal of change now.

Hi June

I'm supposed to be going to Beverley over the summer months for some of my own research, if I do and I have time I'll see if I can find any thing for you.

My husband was stationed at Akrotiri and I did civi work at Epi, got short toured when the Turks invaded.  I probably wouldn't recognise the place now.

Hi Bee,
That would be great if you managed to find the time, thanks. You certainly wouldn't recognised a lot of the island now, a lot of building going on in the north (occupied area) and the south.
We have been over to the occupied part of Nicosia and that is hardly developed, very poor and dilapidated mostly but further north they are building everywhere.
Still loads of animosity between the nationalities!
