Why can't I find my Great Grandmother in the 1911 census?

Her name was Louisa Blewitt (pictured left) born 1894 and she was the daughter of Levi and Annie Blewitt. I can find Levi and Annie but not Louisa. I know she lived out before she got married but I can't find her anywhere. Any ideas as to why this is?

What do you know about her marriage? Maybe her husband's home area might give some clues as to where they met and where she may have been living in the period between leaving home and marrying.

There could be any number of reasons for this, including:
she may have been working away from home and her sur/name mistranscribed
she was transcribed under another name, perhaps whomever she was working for, and perhaps just dittoed
her age may be incorrectly written on the census

The above may be a few reasons that you are not picking her up in searches. You may need to broaden the net, searching just for a Louis* b 1894+/- 10 years and perhaps add a county depending on how many results you get.  

Where was Lousia born and where were her family living in 1911? Although we are still not allowed to do lookups of the 1911 census due to copyright, we may be able to help you look for her and pass on some hints in order that you can locate her yourself.

Don't worry - I found the family in 1901 and now trying to locate Louisa in the next census .... no luck so far I'm afraid

In 1918 she was married from 217 Wright Road, Saltley in Birmingham. I'm assuming that she was mistranscribed by her employer.

I am still not having any luck finding her I'm afraid.

If she was in an institution of some sort she will be listed under initials rather than full name.

For what it's worth, I have several relatives missing from several censuses because they were traveling (running away!) at the time.
Don't know if it's pertinent for Louisa, but I've spent many hours in the Library looking for peple who simply weren't recorded.

Also some women are missing because they were taking part in the suffragette protest - maybe Louisa was one of them
