Wexford birth records pre 1864 ?
« on: Friday 15 June 12 22:16 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm researching Edward Dwyer of Monamolin who married Ellen Dwyer (no relation) in St Andrews, Dublin in 1881. That gives him a birth of around 1860, so only place I can go for records is RootsIreland.

I was amazed to find that in the whole of Wexford it can produce only 13 birth records and 2 marriages with the name Dwyer and in all, it lists only 5,655 birth/baptism records for the whole county versus a county like Offaly which has well over 200,000.
Question is. If you can't go to RootsIreland for pre 1864 Wexford births then where do you find them ???
I'm stumped!

There are currently transcripts for just three parishes in Co. Wexford  included on RootsIreland - two RC and 1 CofI. Have a look of their sources page to see if they have the parish you require...

Thanks Shane.
No. I'm looking for Barraglen/Monamolin.
I presumed that since Wexford went 'Green' a while back they had the whole county covered.
I'll e mail them for info.
cheers

the parishes they have at the moment are - Clongeen & Tagoat RC, and Inch CofI.

Keep an eye on their sources page for updates - they still have quite a few parishes to add.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is any use to you but this is possibly Edward's father Edward in Manamolin

Edward & Ellen's marriage

Some of their children are on this as well, just in case you don't have them !

Thanks v. much Tara.
Yes, I have those records. But am looking to get from that marriage record of Edward and Ellen to find out why the only Wexford (Monamolin) Dwyer in the 1901/11 census is a Murtha Dwyer  who I know is definitely an 'uncle' to my aunts cousins.
No worries, time to step away from the computer and head into the National Library!
cheers

I'm also interested in Dwyers in the same area. My wife's maiden name is Dwyer and her grandfather was Andrew Dwyer who married Bridget Mellon and they lived at Ballygarrett but he was born at Moneylawn and his father was also Andrew Dwyer and mother was Margaret (possibly Malloy). Would be interested if you think we have common ground. My wife's father, Edward Dwyer left Ireland to live in Birmingham, UK in the late 1950s and stayed here till he died.

On another line of research Tara, I have McDonnells in Dublin (married Whelans of Bolton Street) and Fennellys of Laois (married Lawlors in late 1800s). Kilminchy, Portlaois area. Ballydavis.

Hi Pete,

I didn't do well researching my McDonnells as they alternated the spelling to McDonald a few times so it became nwar on impossible but mine were in Chamber Street for a good few years.

My Fennelly"s were from Rathmore near Stradbally in Laois ..... not a million miles from Kilminchy ! Do you think there might be a connection ?
