From the 1751-1812 burial index

Frances BLACK age 6 was buried 11 Jul 1794
William BLACK an infant buried 11 Feb 1793

So if this is your family they must have had a later William.

There don't seem to be any early records for the Baptist Church in Earls Barton.

There were 2 William Blackwells in Earls Barton

William a shoemaker and William a labourer. Both were married to Elizabeths, and both couples baptised children around the same time.

Both of the Williams are in the 1841 census
William the shoemaker living with Maria, quoted by Nadine
and
William the ag lab transcribed by ancestry as Blackal, with age also wrong, transcibed as 66 instead of 46

According to the Mercury newspaper in Oct 1841 William was a labourer when he 'burglariously entered the house of Charles Cornish' He was sentenced to 10 years transportation.

Thank you all Very much for your help

Also thank you as l now know that l have been following the wrong William Blackwell and that William Blackwell Shoemaker is my true Distant Relative l did not see the blackal  1841 Census, so have reverted back to my last knowledge of him the 1841 Census with 3rd wife Maria l found their Marriage on my fiche at my local library where william was noted as William Blackburn Married Maria Sheffield 1841 Earls Barton l also found Maria Blackwell nee Sheffield on  Census and she is stated as windowed so believe William Blackwell must have passed between 1841 and 1851, l have not yet found a death for that time frame l have also just done a search on freereg.com and found the matching marriage transcribe which gives a fathers name of John Blackburn

Earls Barton
All Saints Parish Church
Marriage 17 Jan 1841  which would explain the  sheffield children on the  Census
Groom William Blackburn
Widow
Shoemaker
Bride Maria Sheffield
Widow
Grooms father John Blackburn
Labourer
Brides Father Richard Ford
Leather Dresser
Witnesses William Austen and John Sage

Now with the surname mistake my journey continues thank you all again for your help it is very much appreciated

Kind Regards

HI All

l am cheekily going to ask if you could help me one more time and apologise if you feel l may have wasted you time so far, After further research today l have found another trail and would be most grateful for a view on it and whether it could be a good possibility l will try to keep it as short as possible.

l will just add a reference for each person to understand who each person is.

First l will start with my now known GT Gt Grandfather William Blackwell Born about 1798 shoemaker believe Northamptonshire William Married Firstly Charlotte James, Secondly to Elizabeth Berril both Earls Barton, William and Elizabeths Daughter Rebecca has been spelt Rebekah born  1830 Earls Barton is my Direct Grandmother William married a third time to a widower maria Sheffield in 1841 after Elizabeths death and appear on the  Census married and my rebekah present along with her sister also marias step daughter on william and marias marriage it is mistranscribed as Blackburn but states williams father as John l can not find any reference to William or father john in Earls Barton apart from williams marriages that suggested he was born else where.

l had been wrongly following a william blackwell l will state as William no2 born around the same time as my william and had been christening children at the same time also in Earls Barton because of the same surname l thought could they still possibily be related, so decided to trace William Blackwell no2  to see where it would lead firstley to see if william no 2 had a uncle John Blackwell. now l will say a brief explaintion of what l found.

William no 2 born 1792 son of William Blackwell l will state as William no3 and Martha Bayes married 11 Oct 1779 Earls Barton, William Blackwell no 3 baptized 29 May 1750 Wollaston Northamptonshire but as Black son of William Blackwell Black l will state as William 4 and Rebecca Ekins.

other children of William no 4 and rebecca Ekins as baptized as Black

Mary Black bpt 22 May 1748 Wollaston
Eliz  Black   bpt 24 May 1752 Wollaston
Ekin Black
Rebekah Black bpt 4 March 1759 Wollaston
Sarah Black Bpt 4 Oct 1761 Wollaston
Thomas Black bpt 6 Jan 1765 Wollaston
John Black bpt 26 May 1754 Wollaston

John Black married a Elizabeth Dell on 6 Aug 1776 Higham Ferrers Northamptonshire which is not far from Earl Barton.

John and Elizabeth had the following children in Higham Ferrers

Rebekah Black bpt  12 Oct 1777
Sarah Black bpt 14 May 1780
John Ekins Black 22 Aug 1784
Elizabeth Black bpt 19 Aug 1787
Thomas Black bpt 17 Aug 1789
Joseph Black bpt  22 July 1793

Sadly l am still unable to link my William as can not find a son born to john and Elizabeth Black named William but think that as he would of been born 5 years after their last child maybe l have just missed it also with Johns brother living in Earls Barton and the ovious Rebecca link do you think that my william is a missed baptism and namedf his daughter after his sister , Aunt , and Grandmother maybe first went to visit his uncle and cousin and decided to stay l apologise again to drooling on but any opinion would be most appreciated.

Kind Regards

Nadine

The William BLACKWELL that married Charlotte JAMES in 1815 then Elizabeth BERRILL in 1819 was descibed in both the marriage entries as a labourer.

I cannot see a marriage for William the shoemaker in the marriage index.
William the shoemaker and his wife Elizabeth bapt these children in Earls Barton parish church

5 Apr 1812 Samuel (recorded as BLACKMOOR)
9 Oct 1814 John
30 Apr 1820 Thomas
5 Aug 1821 Hannah
12 Dec 1826 Rebekah
9 Mar 1830 Rebekah
12 Oct 1834 Sarah

They seem to have also attended the Baptist church as some births are recorded there (found in FreeReg)
Sarah Ann 16 Jun 1826
Rebekah 28 May 1824
Hannah 26 Jul 1821

William the labourer's children, he also has wife Elizabeth
29 Apr 1821 Charlotte
9 Oct 1836 Thomas

A Mary Blackwell age 16 was bapt 14 Jun 1843 no parents mentioned but when she marries in 1852 she says that William the labourer is her father.

Here is a William to consider

William BLACK otp, bachelor married Eliz SMITH opt, spinster
1st Sep 1809 at Higham Ferrers

They did not baptise any children in H.F.

This could be the William bapt 19 May 1782 to John and Elizabeth BLACK at H.F.

Let's just check that I'm following you correctly .... you have ruled out William the labourer and you are concentrating on William the shoemaker - yes ? He married Elizabeth ? (possibly Elizabeth Smith as mgeneas post) and then Maria Sheffield.  Their children as mgeneas has listed include Rebecka b.1830 your direct-line - yes?  You are looking for the baptism of William the shoemaker - c. 1798 -  and his father is John Blackwell - and mgeneas has posted a possible as the son of John & Eliz. Black in Higham Ferrers  1782

Phew ... I was getting a little lost ... so you are sorted now Nadine are you? if John & Eliz. are William's parents
HARE - Taunton, Somerset  COOKSON - London ANDREWS - PLANE & PARKER -Peckham
