Violet Rose Scott & Harry Law, Ontario
« on: Thursday 14 June 12 11:16 BST (UK) »
Violet Rose Scott was the daughter of Robert James Scott & Lucy Palmer. She was born in Barrow In Furness in England on 3rd May 1904. The family emigrated to Canada when Violet was a young child & settled in the St Catharines area of Ontario. I know that Violet died on 30th January 1933 in Toronto, Ontario & her death registration showed that her husband was named Harry Law of 6 Harshaw Avenue, Toronto. I would very much like to learn of the marriage details for Violet & Harry.
Also, it's known that Violet & Harry had a son but no details about him & his birth are known.  If anyone could point me in the right direction to discover more about Violet & Harry & their mystery son I would be most grateful please. I live in England & have found it very hard to try to seek out information for Canadian records so any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,

It looks like your Violet was buried in Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines.   You could contact the cemetery and see if there is anyone buried with her.  If Harry is also there, and they can give you a date of death...you might be able to find an obituary for him.

I checked the Toronto Star for an obit for Violet, but didn't find one.  You might try the St Catharine's library to see if they can find an obituary for her in their local paper.    I don't see the name Law in their surname index though...

If you can find out Harry's death date, there might be an obituary in the Toronto Star newspaper archives (if he remained in Toronto).   You can access the archives from a paid site (not expensive) that is searchable by name and/or date.   I have had a quick look for Harry Law, but haven't found anything.  A date would be really helpful!!  If you find one - post it here... :)

Treefan has a few postings on this site about both of the families they are currently enquiring about.  Perhaps they can link their older posts so we don't "find" information that was previously found.  They were informed of the restrictions of what is publically available in Canada due to privacy laws and also given the Toronto Star Pages of the Past site.

It's me again.....I know about Violet and would love to know more about our families connection.

I'm also interested in knowing about Lucy Palmer's parents names and birthplaces??

It's not clear to me if you have the full death cert for Violet, or only the index information?

In any case, briefly, they were living in Toronto and she died at the age of 29 of TB. She'd only been in her place of residence for 10 days before her death. Buried in St. Catherines Victoria Lawn Cemetery. I'd check to see if Harry Law is also buried there.

Mom Lucy (age 37), Violet and Violet's brother William (age 4) arrived on the Tunisian in Quebec in 1913, headed for Hamilton. [Source: Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 on Ancestry.com]
