« on: Thursday 14 June 12 10:43 BST (UK) »
trying to find links with this lady and green lane halifax and i think the ones at dennis court in about the early 1900's.she owned the properties and the people kept through their jobs which i think had something to do with the railways but can't find any links.
any ideas.? my relative was harry ellison  born in 1873 who was a railway guards porter and who lived in one of the properties.

Are you trying to prove a connection to your own FH?

From the info given by you - she just sounds like a property owner who perhaps rented that property

Where did you get her name from?

When and where was she born?  She may have owned property in Halifax but that doesn't necessarily mean she was born there

Was Hill her married or her maiden name?

What censuses do you have her on?

You will need to provide a lot more info about her as Hill is a very common surname

Yes Harry did marry annie(sometimes called hannah marie tighe) in halifax believe from memory was 1893.annie was a pet name.Found out from someone at the council that Sarah emma hill was the owner of the properties. shows on the census records how the property was owned and that it was given due to the job he was in. don't know the connection between that and sarah's ownership of the property but can only assume she had some connection with it and so from that perspective can only think she lived in halifax for some time.as harry got the house because of his job the only one he held that i can think would have this operation would be when he worked for the railways. as pellon and halifax railway stations were about the same distance from the house don't know which one he worked at. also halifax at the time was one of a few stations which had two lines with many companies working on those two lines. if i knew which station and hence which company he worked for might be able to see if some tied accommodation existed but as don't know that can't do this.also when some stations finished goods work continued at it so can't say for certain he didn't work in that.
know only that between 28th february 1919 on a family will when shown as a railway shunter and 1959 when shown as a railway guards porter on hannah's death certificate because she said she was the widow of a railway guards porter can only assume that between 1919 and when he died in november 1925 he had become a railway guards porter at some time before when he died becoming an electrical engineers labourer. railway shunter was a lower job so i believe but don't know when he stopped working for the railways but can only assume is about 1923 when railways were re-organised.

Being realistic - I cannot see any point in pursuing a search for Sarah Emma Hill with so little information and no clear link to your ancestor other than being their landlady.

If she was around in 1911 - then you should be able to find her on the 1911 census.  However - although she may have owned property in Yorkshire, she may not have lived in Yorkshire

Sarah, I am told was the owner of the property which Harry Lived in. I am trying to find a connection between the two as the house was owned due to their job and can’t find a connection between the two.
