Hi again,

Now I am confused!

The burial record shows Elizabeth was the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth.

I thought it was Bernard and Susanna....

Freereg has an Elizabeth Beckham born to Barnard and Susan Beckham 20 Sep 1761 in Snettisham not so very near Aylsham, but may be worth while looking in that area. kaysii

They were married in Snettisham 8 May 1861 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11558-100384-69?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-4XK:1935736447

Her maiden name is Peachment. They are both of this parish, but doesn't necessarily mean either were born there.

Baptisms for the 1730s in the Snettisham parish records are mostly missing and the ATs although more complete seem to have some years missing. Haven't found the relevant years in BTs, but only had cursory look.

It may be worth looking over a few years in the parish records to see if there were any other Beckham births or marriages prior to the presumed birth year in the parish. I also look on free reg to see where other Beckhams or the like may be living. There is the proviso that not all parish records are transcribed.

Good find Kaysii. The names and dates certainly fit.

Using the same resources as you do, I found a baptism for a Bernard Beckham in Bawdeswell, October 6 1737, baptised by Benjamin and Elizabeth Beckham.

Names and dates seem right, and it's not too far from Aylsham - about 12 miles.

A good find yourself Yorkslass.

I am intrigued by his first name. He spells it Barnard, it's either he writes it as he pronounces it or it is possibly a surname used as a first name. However I have found no Barnards married to Beckhams.

There is a Benjamin "Backham" from Aylsham marrying an Elizabeth Wells in Erpingham in 1792 and having a son Barnard Beckham baptised in Aylsham in 1798 and 1804. Benjamin is presumably the son of "Bernard" Beckham b in Aylsham about 1771

I have found some Peachments in Terrington St Clements, born to a Thomas Peachment who was married twice there and seems to have had several children, including an Elizabeth, but no Susan or Susanna.

Yes the burial record does show that Elizabeth as the daughter of Barnard and Elizabeth.  We did a fairly comprehensive search and the opinion of those at the record office at the time was that this was possibly a recording error, for two reasons: 1. The death record matches the inscription on the tombstone in the Churchyard at Aylsham, 2. No other married Barnard Beckham existed in the records at that time.  Seems like an idle moment on the part of the parish priest (maybe too much altar wine??).  This could of course be entirely wrong.  Thanks again
Philip

Dear kaysii
Thank you for your information on the Peachment's.  This is incredibly helpful - a new line of enquiry for me.  At suggestion of Yorklass, I have now a map of parishes so can understand a little better the geography - I was amazed at the number of parishes in Norfolk!
Thanks much for this help
Philip ;) :)
