looking if any info on passengers that went from ireland to new york in 1840/50.ships or passengers lists tried New York port authority could not find anything

Hi Paddyc,

Don't think Ellis Island started until 1892 ish. The earlier passenger lists have very little detail to identify people. 

www.castlegarden.org is worth a look.

also try this one www.theshipslist.com/  , but do bear in mind that some folk went to canada then crossed over the border .
