International Brigade Health Grounds Rejects
« on: Wednesday 13 June 12 19:55 BST (UK) »
 :) Hi, are thier any International Brigade historians out there who can help me, for 3 years i have been trying to prove my grandfather joined the International Brigade and fought in the Spanish civil war,
I now believe he could have been rejected on health grounds because of wounds received on the Somme battle field 1st July 1916 { K.O.S.B 1912-18 } some men got as far as Dover, some even got to France and Spain before being rejected, iv'e been told by the IBMT that the list of names of those rejected are stored in the National Archive, has any one made a study of these men's names, has any one else had a family ancestor connected to the International Brigade who volunteered but rejected on health grounds.
A big ask i know but can any one help me solve the mystery of my grandad Robert Casey,
3 Casey's are listed in the Brigade, one of them was my relative he was Francis Casey from Glasgow, other two not related as far as i know, my late father a merchant navy veteran swore blind his father { my grandad } did join but its possible that grandad Robert was away from home travelling, got rejected then had to travell back home, after so long it would be nice to prove one way or the other, all the best Derek :) :D ;)

 :) Hi Trevor, thanks for reply, unfortunitly i dont have membership to Ancestry, would it be possible for some one who has access to ancestry to have a look and give me a file number if the docoment are on line.
Just the file number as a friend of mine is a memeber of ancestry but like me not to clever navigating around some sites and any file number would be of great help.
Its been 3 years now since i set out to prove my grandfather Robert volunteered for the International Brigade, i think this is the last chance i may have to find his name, as iv'e said he was badly wounded on the Somme battlefield 1st July 1916, these wound i believe would have been the cause for him being rejected.
My grandad was Robert Casey, 127 Swainby rd, Stockton on Tees.  Co Durham, if the National Brigade
{ Spanish Civil War 1936-39 } names for health ground rejects are on line could some one kindly give me a file number, all the best Derek :) :D ;)

 ??? Trevor you and me both ::)
I thought you had to be a member of Ancestry.co.uk to view files from National Archives
{ those on line that is }

I have over tha last 3 years been in regular touch with International Brigades Memorial Trust
and Karl Marx library London ;)
They have { both } names of men who went to Spain { Volunteers for Brigade } but not all men who volunteered are named.

My grandad Robert Casey is not on any list but!! its possible he is named on medical rejects for reasons i have stated.

This list as i ve' been told by IBMT and others are kept in the National Archives Kew, i have no way of viewing these files if they are on line as you have to be a memeber of Ancestry.co.uk {  ??? i think }

If the medical rejects are on line to view would it be possible for some one to give me file number.
Hope this explains Trevor { coz its the best i can do ??? } hope some one can help my late father a merchant navy veteran WW11  a man of few words swore blind his dad { my grandad } did volunteer for the International Brigade and i would like to prove him right if possible, one important thing, thier are 3 Casey volunteeres named, only one of them is related to me, he was Francis Casey from Glasgow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, all the best Derek :) :D ;)

you would only have to go through ancestry or other co,s such as bright solid who own find my past if they have exclusive copy right to show any records and i never saw anything to say that ancestry have that copyright to those records , now i know sometimes it isn,t easy to negotiate tna site believe me i,ve tried and failed but i,m sure someone else will be able too the usual thing with tna is that they do charge a small fee to dowmload a record which in the case of naval service records from ww1 cost £3.50 it,s all too do with the upkeep and such which is cheap i feel for something no one else has access too , go back to the tna site and have a read up on what records are available and the spectrum of the international brigade files there .

 :) Hi, the International Brigade had a recruitment office in London, from there volunteers would go to Dover land in France then travel onto Spain, although some men were medically rejected there and then some men did get to Dover/France/Spain before being rejected, its these files i'm trying to find out if they exist and are in the National Archives, if they do would it be possible for some one to give me thier file number, thanks Derek :) :D ;)
